Don\u2019t worry &#8211; this won\u2019t be that long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In Galatians 5:13-14<\/strong>, Paul writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: \u2018You shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019\u201d&nbsp; Right after this, he gives the key to living in that freedom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWalk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh\u201d (Galatians 5:16). When we walk by the Spirit, two wonderful things happen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We experience freedom from sin and the deeds of the flesh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We experience freedom to produce the fruit of the Spirit \u2014 love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This fruit, especially love, naturally draws people to us. Jesus said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another\u201d (John 13:35). Evangelism is simply the natural overflow of a life filled with love for Christ. When you truly love someone, you want others to know about them. The same is true with Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Evangelism Is Corporate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evangelism is not just an individual activity &#8211; it is the work of the whole body of Christ. When a local church is united around God\u2019s heart for the lost, the church is blessed and grows. If you feel you don\u2019t know how to evangelize or are nervous talking to strangers, here\u2019s a simple starting point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go out with someone who is already evangelizing. Just stand with them, listen, and be their prayer partner. Prayer is just as important as speaking. The two go hand in hand. Over time, you will learn and gain boldness, you will be saying to yourself \u201cI know that answer, I know the verse that fits here\u201d, you will become sensitive to the leading of The Holy Spirit &#8211; just like a baby learning to walk (Training in righteous &#8211; 1 Timothy 4:7-8; Hebrews 12:11; 2 Timothy 3:16-17 <em>All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for <strong>training in righteousness<\/strong>; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work<\/em>.) Even if you have physical limitations, you can still be used by God. Sit on a park bench and ask the Lord to bring someone to you. God loves divine appointments! Personal &#8211; Story last Saturday. Carry tracts or a Gideon Bible with you. Anyone can hand out a tract. If your church doesn\u2019t have them, ask &#8211; many churches are happy to provide them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Biblical Reasons We Should Evangelize<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Eternal Rewards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus told us to \u201cstore up for yourselves treasures in heaven\u201d (Matthew 6:20). These rewards will be given at the judgment or Bema seat of Christ. Paul reminds us that \u201ceye has not seen, nor ear heard\u2026 the things which God has prepared for those who love Him\u201d (1 Corinthians 2:9).&nbsp; Denying ourselves and investing in others now will result in eternal reward later (Matthew 16:27). As Paul said in Philippians 3:7-8, he counted everything as loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Love for the Lost (Especially Our Loved Ones)<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of us have unsaved family members, friends, or coworkers. We don\u2019t want them to die without Christ.&nbsp; God gives us a beautiful model in Deuteronomy 6:4-7:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love the Lord with all your heart\u2026 These words shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. We Have a Living Hope to Share<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have \u201ca hope that is within us\u201d (1 Peter 3:15). Don\u2019t you want others to have this same hope?&nbsp; When we share our hope through evangelism, our own faith grows because we become more dependent on the Lord and study His Word more deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. The Holy Spirit Empowers Us<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus promised:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses\u2026\u201d (Acts 1:8). We are ambassadors for Christ, and God has given us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20).5. It Brings Joy to Heaven<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is great rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7, 10). When we are obedient to share the gospel, the power of God works through us (2 Timothy 1:8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Heart of the Gospel We Share<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The gospel of God<\/strong> &#8211; foretold by the prophets and centered on Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1-6).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The gospel of the kingdom<\/strong> &#8211; the good news that the kingdom of God is near.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The gospel of Christ<\/strong> &#8211; forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The gospel of peace and reconciliation<\/strong> &#8211; restoring our broken relationship with God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key point of unity<\/strong> All these phrases point back to the same core message: the good news of what God has done in the person and work of Jesus Christ\u2014His life, death for sins, burial, resurrection, and the resulting forgiveness, reconciliation, peace with God, entrance into His kingdom, and eternal life by grace through faith. These first four are solid and well-attested. These additional ones simply bring out other rich dimensions of that same gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The gospel of the grace of God<\/strong> Acts 20:24 \u2013 Paul describes his ministry as testifying to \u201cthe gospel of the grace of God.\u201d This emphasizes that salvation is by God\u2019s undeserved favor, not works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The gospel of your salvation<\/strong><br>Ephesians 1:13 \u2013 \u201cIn Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation\u2026\u201d This stresses the personal saving result for believers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0<strong>The gospel of the glory of Christ<\/strong>\u00a0(or \u201cthe gospel of the glory of the blessed God\u201d)<br>2 Corinthians 4:4 \u2013 \u201c<strong>the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God<\/strong>.\u201d<br>1 Timothy 1:11 \u2013 \u201cthe glorious gospel of the blessed God.\u201d<br>These focus on the majestic, radiant revelation of God in Christ. Please understand the magnitude of what you\u2019re handling the majestic, radiant revelation of God in Christ, of who He really is!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The gospel of His Son<\/strong><br>Romans 1:9 \u2013 Paul serves God, as we do, \u201cin the preaching of the gospel of His Son.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0<strong>The everlasting \/ eternal gospel<\/strong><br>Revelation 14:6 \u2013 An angel proclaims \u201can eternal gospel\u201d to those on earth, calling them to fear God and give Him glory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201c<strong>My gospel\u201d \/ \u201cour gospel<\/strong>\u201d<br>Paul sometimes refers to the message he preached this way (Romans 2:16; 16:25; 2 Timothy 2:8; 2 Corinthians 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 1:5). This does not mean a different content, but the gospel as he received and proclaimed it by revelation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the end We are not peddling the Word of God. We speak with sincerity, as from God, in the sight of God (2 Corinthians 2:17). We are the aroma of Christ to this world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Applications:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical ways to live out the motivations of our hearts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start with the overflow of Spirit-filled love<\/strong><br>Intentionally cultivate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) in ordinary relationships. When love, kindness, and patience become visible, people notice. Application: Choose one person this week (family member, coworker, neighbor) and look for a natural moment to serve them or listen well\u2014then, if the door opens, simply share why Jesus is the source of that love.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Treat evangelism as a team activity<\/strong><br>Pair up with a more experienced believer. Go together to a park, coffee shop, or community event. One person can initiate conversation while the other prays silently. Application: Ask your church or a mature friend this Sunday, \u201cCan I go with you the next time you share the gospel or hand out tracts?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create \u201cdivine appointment\u201d habits<\/strong><br>Carry a few gospel tracts or a small Gideon Bible. Sit on a park bench, in a waiting room, or at a caf\u00e9 and quietly ask the Lord to bring someone. Application: Once a week, set aside 30\u201345 minutes specifically for this. Even if you only smile, offer a tract, or pray for the people around you, you are participating. Make a sign \u201cFree Prayer\u201d or Need Prayer?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Witness at home through patient, relational means<\/strong><br>Follow the Deuteronomy 6 model: talk about God\u2019s Word naturally in daily life. Application: Put a short Scripture verse on the fridge or bathroom mirror. Ask genuine questions (\u201cWhat do you think about\u2026?\u201d) instead of launching into a sermon. Keep praying for years if needed, as the example of the 40-year witness illustrates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Link evangelism to eternal perspective and joy<br><\/strong>Before sharing, remind yourself of the rewards, the joy in heaven (Luke 15), and the living hope you possess (1 Peter 3:15). Application: After any gospel conversation\u2014successful or not\u2014thank God specifically for the opportunity and ask Him to grow your dependence on the Spirit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Practice the ministry of reconciliation daily<\/strong><br>See yourself as an ambassador (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). Application: When conflict or brokenness surfaces in conversation, gently point to the peace and forgiveness found in Christ rather than merely offering human advice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diving Deeper: Applications Broader Biblical Themes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Obey the clear command of the Great Commission<\/strong><br>Jesus\u2019 final earthly instruction is to \u201cgo and make disciples of all nations\u201d (Matthew 28:18-20). Application: Treat evangelism as an act of simple obedience rather than a special gifting. Once a month, deliberately step into a new environment (a different neighborhood, a community event, an online group) with the sole intention of looking for an opportunity to introduce someone to Jesus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Live as salt and light in ordinary places<br><\/strong>Jesus calls His followers the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). Application: Identify one regular setting (workplace break room, gym, school pickup line, local caf\u00e9) and intentionally increase your \u201cvisibility\u201d there &#8211; greet people by name, offer practical help, and look for natural openings to mention how your faith shapes your outlook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Partner with God\u2019s desire that none perish<\/strong><br>Scripture reveals God\u2019s heart that all people come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:3-4). Application: Keep a simple prayer list of 3\u20135 people who are far from God. Pray for them daily for 30 days, then take one concrete relational step (invite them for a meal, send a thoughtful message, offer to pray for a need they mentioned). Those of you with the gift of hospitality, and know how to cook; do you know how wonderful a gift that is?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Train the next generation by example<\/strong><br>Children and younger believers learn far more from what they see than from what they hear. Application: Invite a teenager or new believer to accompany you on a simple outreach activity (handing out water bottles with a gospel card, visiting a nursing home, or serving at a community outreach). Debrief afterward so they can process both the successes and the awkward moments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Practice \u201cpre-evangelism\u201d through consistent presence<\/strong><br>Many people need to see genuine Christian character before they will listen to Christian words. Application: Commit to a 90-day \u201cpresence project\u201d &#8211; show up regularly in one place (a local sports team, a volunteer role, a neighborhood association) with no agenda other than being a trustworthy, joyful presence. Trust that credibility earned over time will open gospel conversations later.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Questions: Why should we evangelize?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Moving from head knowledge to heart motivation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the fruit of the Spirit (especially love) naturally draws people to Jesus, what does my current level of love for others reveal about how much I am walking by the Spirit?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jesus said the world would know we are His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:35). How does the quality of love inside our church or family either open or close doors for evangelism?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What eternal treasure am I currently storing up, and how might investing more in the lost change what I value most (Matthew 6:20; Philippians 3:7-8)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask yourself, who are the specific unsaved people in my life that I love most? If I truly believe they face an eternity without Christ, what is one concrete step I can take this month to share hope with them?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How has sharing (or failing to share) the gospel in the past affected my own faith, on my dependence on the Holy Spirit, and my hunger for Scripture?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jesus promised power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us so that we will be witnesses (Acts 1:8). In what areas of my life am I still relying on my own strength or personality instead of that promised power?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7, 10). When was the last time I experienced &#8211; or even imagined &#8211; that kind of heavenly joy because of something I said or did?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If evangelism is the natural overflow of a life filled with love for Christ, what is currently hindering that overflow in me &#8211; fear, busyness, lack of love, or something else &#8211; and how can I bring that to the Lord?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I treating the gospel as something I \u201cpeddle,\u201d or am I speaking with sincerity as an aroma of Christ (2 Corinthians 2:17)? What would change in my approach if I truly saw myself as an ambassador of reconciliation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking at the different facets of the gospel (of God, of the kingdom, of Christ, of peace), which aspect most moves my own heart right now, and how can I share that particular beauty with someone this week?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Questions&nbsp;Part 2 &#8211; Designed to provoke fresh reflection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jesus gave the Great Commission as His last major instruction before ascending. What does the priority He placed on it say about how central disciple-making should be in my own life priorities?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If God \u201cdesires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth\u201d (1 Timothy 2:4), how does my current level of urgency (or lack of it) align with His revealed desire?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In what specific ways am I currently functioning as salt and light in the everyday places I already inhabit, and where might I be blending in so completely that my distinctiveness is lost?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What fears or assumptions about people\u2019s openness to the gospel might be keeping me from simply starting conversations, and how can I test those assumptions this week?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a younger believer or my own children only copied the evangelistic patterns they observe in me, what kind of disciple-makers would they become?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How might regularly stepping out to share my faith, even in small ways, deepen my own experience of God\u2019s faithfulness and power?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking at the brevity of life and the certainty of eternity, what is one relationship or opportunity I have been postponing that I should no longer delay?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In what ways does my lifestyle either confirm or contradict the message I claim to believe, and how might greater consistency open more natural doors for gospel conversation?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I once asked myself this question and ended up with over 6,000 words!
